It isn't because we aren't strong enough or because we just don't know how to deal with it. We have all those tools available in the firm of psychologists and therapists and our familial and friend support systems. We are some of the strongest humans but we are being broken apart by the very thing that makes us strong. What we needed to start understanding and talking openly about and fixing decades ago was moral injury. Moral injury is what happens when a person witnesses, performs or doesn't stop actions that go against their own values and ethics. As a whole the human and animal medical industry suffers from moral injury so greatly and repeatedly that mentally we experience the same trauma that is comparable to going to and actively participating in war. Technicians and other support staff are often afraid or unable to speak up. We are taught that we need to always just do what we are told, even when it goes against our personal and educated morals.
