There is the rich popular clique and the "called worker" or pastor/teach kids who get selected first for extracurricular. Teachers turn a blind eye to what they do and will interact with them in classroom. They can do the same behavior as someone else but not get disciplined and that is in the classroom/study hall or on the sports field/court but the kids who are not in one of those categories get disciplined. The teachers use the same ineffective techniques and ways to teach year after year and parents have complained in the past and nothing seems to be done to address. In chapel, they pray for the rich and popular kids and other kids are ignored. The academic dean wants to control things but doesn't respond to student's emails. Rules were put in place about the honors choir but not enforced and it is mainly pastors and teachers kids in it. There seem to be two standards at the school. Unfortunately, my time there was negatively tainted by anti-gay bullying, even though I wasn't out of the closet at the time. School administration did nothing to stop this bullying, despite being made aware of it. I also was not the only student bullied for perceived or actual differences. Another student, who I will only describe as having some special needs, was also bullied, and worse than I was. Very little was done on his behalf by administrators and many teachers. Worse, the simple accomodations that I now know this condition required (we weren't educated about it at the time) would not have cost the school anything and would not have been more than a moment's trouble for the teachers and administration. Further, the school's science curricula is based on Young Earth Creationism and is decidedly anti-scientific. It is NOT suitable for students who wish earn college majors that require literacy of cosmological history or evolutionary biology or geologic sciences.
